By Web Desk Jul 22 2022 3:51PM

Which is the current version of the internet (web) that you are using? You won’t be familiar with this question, right? The answer is Web 2.0. But, this is not entirely correct. Because these days the internet is emerging towards Web 3.0 and we are currently using different features of Web 3.0. But, what we presently use is just the initial version, then you can imagine how powerful it will be in the future. So, here we will be sharing some information about Web 3.0, the future of the Internet.

Before that, are you familiar with Web 1.0 and Web 2.0? If not, here are some important points of both. Web 1.0 was active during period 1989-2005 and this was considered a “read-only-web”. Web 1.0 included static websites with only a content browsing facility. There was no user-to-server communication and the only features available were hyper-linking and bookmarking pages. The next web version was Web 2.0, which is also known as the "participative social Web" or “read-or-write Web”. This web version with improved user interaction was active during 1999-2012 and it introduced web applications, cloud computing operations, interactive advertising, functionalities such as online documents, video streaming, and more. You can notice that most of the existing web features match Web 2.0. But, as mentioned earlier, the current web is in the evolution stage from Web 2.0 to Web 3.0.

Now, let's talk about the future web, which is Web 3.0. Web 3.0 combines the functionalities of Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Natural Language Processing (NLP) to act as a human brain that recognizes text, voice, image, and video. In general, this emerging Web 3.0 can immediately identify what you are trying to convey with the internet. This semantic web enables users to create, share, and connect content via search and analysis. The proposed applications of Web 3.0 includes metaverses, blockchain games, decentralized finance, privacy and digital infrastructure, etc… In general, this web technology will help users to interact, and securely exchange information and transactions online without a coordinator or centralized authority.

Web 3.0 is a fusion of web technology and knowledge representations that includes decentralized processes. This web technology offers intelligent web-based functionalities and applications with behavioral advertising and engagement. Edge computing, The Internet of Things (IoT), and Semantic searches are unique features.

What are the benefits and drawbacks of Web 3.0? Improved presentation, transparency, efficient search and information linking, personalized web experience, dependability, professional appearance, better marketing opportunity, precise search results, ease of sharing information, etc… are major advantages of Web 3.0. When coming to drawbacks of Web 3.0, incompatibility with less advanced devices, decentralization may cause difficulty in monitoring and regulating, ownership concerns, easy availability of users' personal and public data, the initial difficulty for users to adapt and learn, and more.

These are just an overview of Web 3.0. So, what will be its future? Will there be Web 4.0? At this phase of technology enhancement, there will be more and more advancements in web technologies.
